by Marissa Frankel, Assistant Director, Eisner and Crane Lake Camps

It’s hard to imagine, that after months of planning, we are just wrapping up the first day of Camp Chazak. At 10:00am the red gate swung open on State Line Road and Camp Chazak families arrived ready for new experiences. Their was excitement in the air and the entire Chazak team was beaming! The campers had finally arrived. Louis and Debby, Directors of Eisner and Crane Lake, helped the Chazak staff welcome the families into our community.

We kicked off our inaugural summer with our camp opening ceremony with the Ruach that can only be found in the Eisner and Crane Lake Bubble. The ceremony started with the entire Chazak community singing Chazak by Dan Nichols. We then passed the Torah from parents to campers. We read the camp mission statement, “I am here to strengthen my connection to the Eisner Crane Lake community and the Jewish community and to help everyone around me to do the same.” We have begun building this holy community, and the connections campers will continue to form.

Campers spent the rest of the day taking a tour of camp, unpacking in the cabins, participating in ice breakers to get to know one another, acting out a week in the life of a chazak camper and swimming in the pool. Smiles, laughter, and the blossoming of new friendships are everywhere.

Stay tuned for photos of camp throughout the week, on the web and on the blog!
