Did you know that earlier this summer, our Nitzanim campers traveled to the continent of Antarctica?!

Well, “traveled”.

During an Evening Activity led by one of our amazing Programming Specialists @sarahsagner, the campers completed a series of activities to make Crane Lake feel more like the Southern Hemisphere! Before jumping into their fun night of games and crafts, Sarah felt it was important to provide meaningful context to the activity. She led a discussion with our 7-10 year old campers about what climate change is, and what we can do as individuals and as a camp community to participate in the fight against climate change.

The campers then flew off to different stations. They learned how to fold and cut paper to make unique snowflake designs. They played Penguin Waddle, which is really just Red Light Green Light, BUT you have to waddle like a penguin. They played Literal Freeze Dance, relying heavily on the Frozen soundtrack. And, they wrote letters to President Joe Biden.

At the letter-writing station, campers shared why they love the Earth and why they care about climate change. Their letters (which you can check out some samples of as you swipe!), were so persuasive that we received a response from the President and First Lady!

Sarah’s “Adventures in Antarctica” program is just one of many ways that our staff incorporate social justice and Jewish values into the everyday fun and joy of summer camp.

Thinking about joining in on the Crane Lake Camp magic? Future Campers can learn more at www.cranelakecamp.org/new-families and Future Staff can learn more at www.cranelakecamp.org/work-at-camp.

The Farmer's Almanac tells us that New England will be at or near peak fall color by October 11th. We may be biased, but we think the best place to enjoy the foliage is at CLC!

Alumni, current camp families, and staff - we hope you'll join us for Crane Lake Community Day on Sunday, October 8th! Spend the afternoon reminiscing around camp, visiting your old bunks, spending time in the Rec Hall, participating in camp activities, and of course taking in the Berkshire views.
