Here at CLC, we improve our programming every year.  Based on feedback from campers and parents, in the past we have made innovations such as adding American Football to our schedule, building a brand new Teva site, and increasing our time at the lake.  This year, we heard that campers want more CHOICE in their activities and also wanted more opportunity to build on their strengths and skills.  Enter: Chugensive.

We have long offered one chug period per day, which is an elective or enrichment period. This year we added a second elective period for Upper Camp, during which our older campers get another opportunity every afternoon to pick from a range of higher-level intensive programs.  Many of these offerings are our intensive sports: Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Tennis and more, which offer intensive training and conditioning for our athletes.  New this year are waterfront intensives: Swimming, Waterski, and Sailing, as well as opportunities to delve deeper into other camp activities such as Archery, Art, Animals, Dance, and Drama.  Finally, we’ve added the opportunity pursue other interests not regularly offered at camp, including A/V, Fishing, Photography, and even Danish Language!

Photography

Taking a good photo isn’t always the easiest at camp. You can point your camera and take pictures of smiling faces of course, but there are certain elements that photographers look for when they are capturing moments. In the Photography Chugensive, campers learn about what to look for when taking photos- faces, action, nature, perspective, and lighting, and get hands on with their creativity.IMG_5885

Fishing

The Fishing Chugensive is about learning about the various methodologies of fishing. The campers learn about the types of fish that live in Crane Lake and the special features each fish possesses that make them unique. The campers appreciate the nature and learn about the catch and release methods that are used as well as learning to fish safely.

Waterskiing

In addition to trying Waterskiing during their lake periods, each week some lucky campers get to be a part of the Waterskiing Chugensive! The campers can choose either to waterski or wakeboard. All of our waterfront instructors are Waterski Instructor Certified, and teach IMG_5899the campers all of the techniques for being successful in the water. The campers start by learning on shore, how to hold the rope and how to sit with the skis on. The campers learn that “patience is everything when learning to walk on water!”

Soccer

The campers who choose the Soccer Chugensive are the campers who absolutely love soccer! The coaches know that the campers can play and push them to their best. The coaches teach with intensity and helps the campers with discipline and focus. The coaches join in and help the campers hone their skills through practice. Once a week, all the sports chugensives partake in a fitness intensive because to be a good player, you have to be strong!

Danish

IMG_6159We have our very own Danish instructor at CLC! Her chugensive includes facts about Denmark, speaking Danish and learning about their history. Did you know that handball was invented in Denmark? Or that Lukas Graham, the singer of “7 Years,” is from Denmark? That Denmark is a monarchy and democracy, that University and healthcare are all free, and that its people have been voted the happiest people on earth multiple times? The campers’ favorite word in Danish is hygge, meaning a mix of relaxation and comfortability.
