Camp Chazak Hikes to Lookout Point
Hello Chazak parents! What a busy few days we have had! Here in the bubble (or at camp), we often talk about how time works differently. It sometimes goes slower than normal time; it feels like we do a week’s worth of activities every day. On the flip side, it feels like it’s going by so fast! Monday we made Britot Kehillah, which means we made a poster with all the commitments we would make to each other while living together. With this, we came up with bunk names.
After this, we went to low ropes and did some team building exercises with some of the crane lake staff. Two of the people we met were British! Towards the end, we did an activity called the Multi-vine. During this, one camper would cross a wire using a series of hanging ropes while the staff and campers spotted them. The kids were great at not only crossing the rope but cheering on their friends. We started Limud, which means learning, and we learned about Jewish values through stories that we acted out as skits. We played some getting to know you games after that. After this we went swimming in the pool, and the campers couldn’t get enough of it! We had t’fillah, or services, and we had so much fun learning new songs, singing ones we knew, and playing instruments to the beat.
Making pizzas with veggies from our garden
Yesterday morning we went to high ropes! Many of the campers, and even some of the staff, climbed up a thirty foot pole and zipped down on the zip line. It was so much fun and the kids were so brave! Those who didn’t go up helped belay or anchor their friends, and all of the kids were cheered on. After lunch we took a van over to Eisner camp, and we learned a little a about Israel. We met Ori and Ziv, chefs from Israel. Greg Kellner walked us up to the garden at K’far Teva, which is where we learn about nature. At the garden we picked our own vegetables like squash, tomatillos, eggplants, and tomatoes. We then used the vegetables we picked and put them on homemade pizzas. While they cooked on a fire, we hiked up a mountain to place called Lookout Point. From this place you can see all of Great Barrington, the town where Eisner is located, and New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts, all from the same place!
After we ate our pizzas we went back to Crane Lake. After services, which many of the campers helped lead, we had an awesome pool party. We are having so much fun, and wanted to tell you all about it! We can’t wait to keep playing, growing, making friends, and do great stuff at camp!
