The waterfront and pool instructors from Crane Lake and Eisner have been training hard over the past couple days to gain their lifeguard certifications. They refreshed their skills in CPR, first aid, water rescue and more. We are proud that all of the lifeguards passed their training and are ready to protect the waters of Crane Lake Camp.

There are many special lakefront and pool instructors here for the summer. Today we would like to give you a little preview into the life of one of CLC’s finest sailors.

Whether you’re in Dumfries, Scotland or West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, the sport of sailing remains the same, according to Kellie Carmichael, one of our newest sailing instructors.

Kellie has traveled to the United States and is excited to teach the campers the ins and outs of sailing on Crane Lake.

“I’m looking forward to teaching the campers more about the sport,” Kelly said. “I think they’ll enjoy learning how to race.”

From the early age, Kellie learned how to sail on a small lake near her home in Scotland. She was introduced to sailing by her father and older brother who were both active in the sport. At the age of 10, Kellie got involved in the local sailing club where she continued to grow as a sailor and later on, compete.

After a few years of competing locally, Kellie was offered a place on the Scottish Sailing Squad where she represented Scotland in competitions all over the United Kingdom.

“It was an amazing experience,” Kelly said. “I learned so much and enjoyed meeting people who share my same passion for sailing.”

She has sailed on small single-handed boats as well as bigger double handers. During her years competing, Kellie was awarded 2nd place in a series of sailing events.

Currently, Kellie is studying occupational therapy at Robert Gordon University in Scotland. At home, she teaches courses to young children at the sailing club and spends most of her free time on the water.

“I love being on the boat and feeling connected with the water,” Kellie said. “I want the campers to experience the same excitement.”
