Captains ’14 have done an incredible job leading Crane Lake in Maccabia this week. They’ve been busy doing all sorts of things to make this color war the best yet. Here are a few reflections written by the captains on how their days have been.

I became a new camper here at Crane Lake this year in Olim as the only new camper out of 78. All of the campers and staff worked to make me feel welcome and within the first two days, Crane Lake already felt like my second home. Being a first-year captain during color war has been an amazing and challenging experience. In just a week I have learned to be a true leader amongst my peers and younger campers. I have helped my friends fulfill their childhood dreams of captainship and I have begun to create my own. At the end of Maccabia I hope they my only regret will not be coming to CLC sooner.

maccabia-day-2Maccabia is one of the biggest events at Crane Lake Camp. This year as Olim we have the opportunity to be captains. Being a captain we have many responsibilities such as writing line-ups in the morning and making sure campers are having fun in their activities throughout the day. Although being a captain has its up and downs, like going to bed late and working hard to get everyone’s attention, in the end it is all worth it because being a leader at CLC is the best feeling in the world.

I won’t lie, color war has been the hardest four days of my life, but it has been so rewarding and fun. We stay up late and wake up at early every day. Captains write everything and are the foundation of both white and blue. We work so hard and so long, but win or lose we have the time of our lives. At buckets brigade I was a bucket filler, and even though we lost, in the end both teams joined together to run into the freezing cold lake. We had such a good time. While camp is split in two, I personally believe Maccabia brings us all a little closer. On closing day I know I will cry but the memories I made here will always be in my heart.
