“Great catch!” “Awesome play!” “Amazing throw!” “Outstanding touchdown!” These are just a few of the many things you may here while at the football activity period. After many summers without the great sport, football has finally been added to our schedule! With two exceptional coaches, Brandon R. and Sam W., football has been a huge hit so far this summer.

CLC2015Day3-64Bonim, Chaverim and Olim boys and girls all have at least one football period scheduled throughout the summer. The specialists make sure the lesson is suitable for a wide range of age groups. At every lesson a new skill is taught. So at a bunks first lesson they may learn how to throw a football and at their second lesson they may learn how to properly catch the ball.

When at football, a typical lesson generally consists of teaching basic skills such as throwing and catching, offensive strategy, defensive strategy and some other drills that target the specific skills learned. Once the lesson is taught, the campers and counselors play a game incorporating the new skills learned.

Bunks are able to work as a team and build their relationship with one another. Brandon and Sam stress the importance of teamwork at every lesson. Football is about working together and the coaches make sure that goal is achieved at every session. The coaches bring a lot of energy, knowledge and passion to each lesson.

CLC2015Day2-15-1024x682At the end of every lesson, the coaches award one camper the “Lombardi trophy winner” which is given to a camper that did something exemplary during the lesson. This award can go to a camper who played football for their first time, helped someone out on the field, cheered their teammates on or just something the coaches thought stood out.

So far this summer there have been two football tournaments. The tournaments have been very successful and a lot of fun for campers. Football is a great new addition to the bubble and we couldn’t be happier!
