My favorite camp experience would have to have been fight song 2014. The build up to fight song is always intense, but even more so when it’s the campers last year (and last chance) to be named fight song champions!

The girls in my bunk had been writing things throughout the year, as had all the other bunks in Olim. Every rest hour, bunk time, olim time, and every spare minute they had was spent writing and rehearsing to make sure everything was perfect! We all ate, slept, and breathed fight song practice.

Then fight song night came around and all the ladies in Olim dressed up as the pink ladies and the boys all dressed up as T-birds. Everyone looked amazing!

Screen-Shot-2015-07-28-at-11.11.36-AMTension was high in the Rec Hall as everyone was called up… Bonim boys, Chaverim girls, Nitzanim girls… and eventually Olim! We all left the Rec Hall to cheers of good luck. We marched into that hall silently and turned to face all of the familiar faces and we sang our walk in to them… the kids nailed it! Then we sang our fight song and not one person messed up! After that we sang our walk out and nailed that as well! Everyone was so impressed! Even if the outcome wasn’t as we wanted it to be, the children had made me and the other staff members so proud!

We all sang the alma mater and hashkiveinu as one unit. After the judges had tallied the scores, we all sat in anticipation. We heard, “Chav girls, Machon” and when they said “and the winners of fight song 2014 is Olim,” I have never felt more proud as my children all jumped in the air and screamed and cried and were so happy!

That is my favorite experience at camp because the overwhelming feelings of pride and joy I felt was like nothing I have ever felt before.
