The Jewish value of this week is Savlanut – patience. Whether it’s waiting in line at the salad bar, waiting for color war to breakout, or waiting for canteen, patience is key at camp. This week, we had two counselors reflect on how patience plays a role at camp along with how campers believe they show patience at camp.

The constant stream of the same inquiries can and will drive anyone insane, but I’m supposed to be talking about how I show patience at camp. Nope, you didn’t get a package today, but you got a letter. I’m not sure what we’re having for dessert, but we’ll find out soon. Yes, even if you showered yesterday you still need to shower during shower hour. It takes a certain amount of patience to give every camper the response they deserve. As a counselor, I want to encourage them to ask questions, even if the questions get repetitive. At camp I show patience to support the campers’ growing minds and to be fair, they have to have a lot of patience with me. It must get really annoying having to hear me ask 27 times for them to put on their bathing suits. Patience is a necessary skill that I have learned and continue to improve upon through my time at camp. – Avery Mason, General Counselor

I truly believe Camp has taught me patience. Over my nine years at crane lake camp there have been many situations that I had to learn to take a step back and a breath and move forward in an appropriate manner. This has not just become important in my camp life as a counselor but also in my daily life. Without camp I would not be able to create such efficient interpersonal relationships with my co counselors and campers- Daryl Pazer, General Counselor
