URJ Crane Lake Camp offers a variety of summer options for children grades three and up. Our sessions run from two weeks for first time campers in 3rd and 4th grades, to three, four, or seven weeks for our 3rd-10th grades. Our bunk groups travel together throughout the session from activity to activity, and participate in everything that camp offers. This style of programming gives everyone the chance to do things they love, and try new activities that they have never had the chance to explore! In addition to traveling on pre-set schedule during the week, campers also choose a chug (elective) each week. This provides campers with the opportunity to explore different areas of interest than they are schedule to do, or even continue to an activity they enjoyed in the past. Our chugim are taught by the counselors and sports coaches.
We place campers into eight units based on the camper's grade in school the following September. This way, each unit is comprised of children who are socially, physically, and developmentally on approximately the same level. Here are our units at camp:
|Unit Name||Hebrew Translation||Entering Grades|
|K'TANIM (2 weeks)||"Little Ones"||3rd and 4th|
|NITZANIM||"Seedlings"||4th and 5th|
|BONIM||"Builders"||6th and 7th|
|CHAVERIM||"Friends"||8th and 9th|
|OLIM||"Those who grow up"||10th|
|CRANE LAKE IN ISRAEL||11th|
Our K’tanim program is two weeks long. This introductory program is perfect for our youngest campers, most of who will be away from home for the first time. Special attention is paid to teaching our K’tanim campers how to get around camp and enjoy all that camp has to offer. Our “little ones” form wonderful friendships and have a great time during what we hope will be the first of many summers at Crane Lake. If K'tanim campers loves camp, there is the opportunity for them to extend for the full session.
For your Olim (10th grade) camper, this summer is the pinnacle of their camp experience. As the oldest campers, Olim have many privileges befitting their age, including a 4-day trip to Montreal. More information about the trip will be available as we get closer to camp. Olim also have the opportunity to take on a real leadership role. This includes participating in our big brother/big sister program with our youngest campers as well as the opportunity to lead the camp in our Maccabiah (color war) during second session.
Our Machon unit is a Counselor-In-Training program. During the first session of camp, our Machonikim participate in an intensive counselor training program, preparing them for all aspects of being a counselor. During the second session of camp, our Machonikim become junior counselors, moving into bunks for on-the-job training and mentorship from our experienced counselors. Enrollment is limited and requires an application, interview and letters of recommendation.
